In order for you to understand where I’m going on this page, it may help to understand where I’m coming from, so I’ve created this page to tell you a little more about me.

I  finished school recently, and probably won’t have any more class until I attempt some kind of graduate degree, most likely a master’s in philosophy. I try to spend my time on the things I enjoy most, and not waste it “finding myself” or “building a career”. While some long-term strategizing can be beneficial, I have found that narratives are more often constructed after the fact, and I’d rather weave a plot out of many fascinating details than try to squeeze enjoyment from a rigorous adherence to the plan.  I also play alot of videogames, and my bass guitar. I read a little. I had taken up meditation, but i couldn’t keep it up.

I’m interested in a universe which does not necessarily need a divine master and creator to be, in and of itself, divine. Every element in it is composed of other elements, and each, through connection to others, make up a part of a still larger element. At the highest order we find the entire universe, at the lowest order we find only information. Everything in between is an arbitrary grouping, and yet each grouping is invaluable. This arrangement is staggering in it’s complexity, and wonderful to behold.  I’m also interested in what things mean.  Most ideas, objects, or actions have multiple meanings, in a constant state of revision. Some things are as they seem, but nothing is ever just as it seems. Look from a different angle, or wait a moment and look again. The problem with any concrete definition is the problem of trying to hit a shape-shifting, moving target, while you yourself move, and the projectile may cease to exist during flight.  Life is fascinating, fantastic, and utterly incomprehensible. I feel compelled to try.

I like to listen to anything that rocks me, but that isn’t limited to rock and roll music. If you’re passionate about a song, i can probably find something i like about it. I am always open to suggestion, and new music seems to have a way of giving me new direction.

Mostly my favorite books are those that give me exactly what i need when i need it, psychologically speaking. Even better is when this happens unexpectedly. Some examples: Catcher In the Rye, Ishmael, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Joshua, Siddhartha, Brave New World, Slaughterhouse Five, Illusions.  Its impossible not to love a book that provides answers to questions you couldn’t clarify in your mind.

I think identity is a committee product, not something innate to be discovered, or something personal to be created. I consider myself to be an organized narrative tying together important places, events, and people with whom i formed various relationships. It is the total set of those relationships, as generally understood by others, that define me as an individual. That is, life is not about finding yourself or creating yourself (sorry Larry), its about being yourself. Luckily, there is simply nothing else for you to be.  If you really want to know about me, its going to take you some time, and a willingness to recognize and reject certain initial assumptions. However, with this in mind, l try to do the same in getting to know about other people.

Excellent work. I love the way your mind is processing your universe!

and as far as recommending songs go, if someone is going to be passionate enough about a song or type of music and try to convince me that it’s great stuff, it had better actually be. Picking good from awful in sound is exceedingly simple for me – I will lose much respect for people who try to convince me that their shit is worth listening to.

  1. ugh, I don’t know what I was upset about when I wrote the above comment, but I hate that I did. what a gross thing to have said. If something makes someone feel good, it’s good enough.

I’ll let it slide for now, it was prolly just a jab at Marc
